Where to stay in Furano

Hotels in Furano

When planning your stay in Furano, there are two primary areas to consider:

Kitanomine Area

This area is closer to the ski lifts, making it a popular choice for skiers. It offers a selection of restaurants and is approximately a $10–$15 taxi ride to Furano town center.

Furano Town Center

Often more budget-friendly, the town center provides a variety of dining and shopping options. While it's a bit farther from the lifts, transportation is readily available.

Regardless of where you choose to stay, we offer morning pick-ups and evening drop-offs at your accommodation, ensuring convenience throughout your trip.

Booking Tips

Direct Booking:
It's often beneficial to book directly through the hotel's official website, as some online booking platforms may show no availability when rooms are still available.

Early Reservations:
Given the popularity of Furano during the ski season, it's advisable to book your accommodation well in advance to secure your preferred lodging.

We hope this information helps you plan a comfortable and enjoyable stay in Furano!

Here is a list of places we can definitely recommend

Sofa Ski Chalet Furano https://skisportadventure.square.site/product/sofa-chalet-japan/8?cs=true&cst=custom

No stress, no hassle—stay at the Sofa Ski Chalet, located just 200 meters from our base at the Nordica Test Centre in Kitanomine. This beautiful house offers a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, allowing you to enjoy your privacy while also connecting with fellow skiers in the spacious common areas. Guests in 2024 had an amazing time, making the Chalet a favorite choice for comfort and camaraderie. Interested? Let us know, and we’ll handle the details for your accommodation!

Hotel Munin (Kitanomine) www.hotelmunin.com/en/

Probably the most popular spot among our guests last February—brand new, with a great onsen and, most importantly, conveniently close to the bar. 😉

Hotel Hitohana (Kitanomine) https://hitohana-jp.book.direct/en-gb

Another brand-new hotel, very close to the lift. Several of our guests stayed there, and everyone really enjoyed it. While it’s conveniently near the lift, it’s a bit further from the bar. 😉.

Tsuru Apartments (Kitanomine) https://www.tsuru-apartments.net/

My business partner, Mr. Hiro Nagata, offers several apartments for rent in the heart of Kitanomine, conveniently located near the SkiSportAdventure office in Furano. These apartments are an excellent option, especially if you're traveling as a group and looking for extra space to relax after skiing. Each apartment includes its own kitchen and living room, providing comfort and convenience for your stay.

Furano Lofts (Kitanomine) https://www.furanolofts.com/

A friend of mine, Leon, owns a stunning and exclusive apartment complex. The rooms are exceptional—essentially Australian standards in Japan. While it’s a bit more expensive, it’s absolutely worth it if you have the extra budget. Plus, the onsen is truly outstanding!

New Furano Prince Hotel (Kitanomine) www.princehotels.com/newfurano/

This is a classic Japanese ski town hotel, owned by the Prince Hotel chain and part of the Furano Ski Resort. It offers the only true ski-in/ski-out accommodation in Furano, with direct access to the slopes. Located about a 5-minute drive from Kitanomine, it’s a great option for those seeking convenience. If you stay at the New Prince, we’ll start skiing right from your hotel.

La Vista Furano Hills (Furano town) https://dormy-hotels.com/en/dormyinn/hotels/furano/

A nice hotel featuring a beautiful onsen with stunning views overlooking all of Furano. As the tallest building in town, it offers a unique perspective of the area. Conveniently located near restaurants and right next to the train station, it’s an excellent choice for both comfort and accessibility.

Furano Hotel (Kitanomine) http://www.jyozankei-daiichi.co.jp/

A very nice hotel, slightly tucked away and probably the fanciest in Furano. While it’s on the pricier side, it’s an excellent choice for those looking for a more upscale experience. Some of our past guests have stayed there and highly recommended it. It’s about a 5-minute drive away.

Hotel Natulux (Furano town) https://www.natulux.com/lp/english/

A convenient hotel near the train station, offering another great option for staying in town.

There are also several Japanese style hotels and Bed and Breakfast places. I do not have any personal experience with these. But I have heard that some of them are also quite ok. You might have to use your high school Japanese to get in touch with them 😊.

Airports

There are two airports to choose from

Sapporo New Chitose Airport (CTS)

The largest airport on Hokkaido, New Chitose Airport, handles most international flights into the region. With direct flights available from Australia, Asia, and Europe, it’s a convenient option for many travelers.

While it’s a bit farther from Furano, plenty of buses offer direct transfers to the ski resort, making the journey easy and hassle-free.

Asahikawa Airport (AKJ)

Asahikawa Airport is a smaller airport on Hokkaido, located just about an hour away from Furano by bus. Its close proximity makes it a convenient choice for travelers heading to the ski resort.

Why Fly with ANA?
All Nippon Airways (ANA) offers competitive flights to Asahikawa, often with excellent deals for travelers from Australia. Their overnight flights allow you to maximize your time on the slopes—arriving early enough to ski on your first day and leaving late on your last day. Most flights will route through Tokyo, making it an easy and efficient option.

Travel Tip:
Booking your flights in advance ensures you get the best deals and a seamless travel experience.

Start your journey to Furano and enjoy the best of skiing in Hokkaido!

Bus transfer to Furano

Traveling to Furano is convenient, with several transportation options available. One of the most common methods is by bus.

Hokkaido Resort Liner offers bus transfers to and from Furano, connecting it with various locations, including Sapporo. To ensure you get a seat, it’s recommended to book in advance.

Equipment

What skis and gear should you bring

Skis

As we’ll be skiing in Japan with a focus on powder, I recommend using skis with a width of around 90mm underfoot. Some great options include:

  • Nordica Enforcer 93 or 100

  • Kaestle FX 95

  • Fischer Ranger 93

These skis provide excellent versatility, stability, and float in powder, making them ideal for the conditions you'll encounter.

test Centre

We offer a fully exclusive ski rental service, so you can leave your skis at home.
Your coach will choose the most suitable skis for the day based on the conditions,
and we’ll bring them directly to the slopes for you.
Simply click in and enjoy skiing on well-tuned, high-performance equipment.

Our Nordica Test Centre also serves as the meeting point for our information evenings and private video study sessions,
making it convenient and easy for everyone to find us off the slopes.

If you want to buy new skis, just let me know. I can give you some advice on what to get.

Back country gear

Beacon, Shovel, Probe, Backpack

As we are going to ski powder, we are also going to be off piste with some groups.
When we leave the slopes and do some side or back country. We need some avalanche safety equipment.
If you have a beacon, shovel, probe and backpack, please take it with you.

We also hire some BC gear at our Nordica test centre. Just follow the button below and you can book your BC equipment

If you are keen to do more back country in the future you should by the gear.
I can guide you in the right direction.

Clothing

As you probably know, it can get quite cold in Japan.
You will need some good gear that keeps you warm.
Just a little check list what to bring.

  • gloves mittens work the best or you can invest in some heated gloves

  • socks for me merino works the best or as above heated socks or boot heaters

  • balaclava

  • good googles

  • Helmet with proper liner

Any questions let me know I help you out as I work at a ski shop.
